September’s End

In fading days of summer

We’re watching Ryder Cup.

It’s foursomes on the second day

And Europe are well up.

The spectacle’s exciting,

Beats political manoeuvres

Of Brexit, Senate votings,

MeToo’s grim shakers, movers.

How refreshing is a battle,

A sporting one, on swards

Of green and rolling fairways,

That golfing Cup affords!

Can I be the only one

Bored rigid by the spats

‘Twixt Labour’s Corbyn, Tory’s May,

Repubs and Democrats,

By luvvie claiming life’s been wrecked

– One hears the plaintive whine –

By sinful man who’d pinched her rear

In 1989 ?
